A daunting 112 million blogs are on the web today, and people are writing about everything from Apple products to Zodiac signs. Luckily for luxury yacht fans, Helium Report has come across some top-notch blogs that enthusiastically cover megayachts to luxury sailboats. Here are some of our favorites:

Megayacht NewsMegayacht News

For the latest scoop on the megayacht world, look no further than the aptly named Megayacht News. Blogger Diane Byrne brings her vast experience as executive editor of Power & Motoryacht magazine to her daily postings, covering industry topics such as the latest luxury yachts, new marinas, updates on key players and philanthropic opportunities. Byrne is clearly an industry insider but her writing is down-to-earth and reveals a genuine love of this extravagant world. There’s even a “photo of the month” contest and entertaining anecdotes from yacht christenings that Byrne gets to attend. This blog is a fun, informative read that is sure to float your boat, whatever kind it may be.

Zephyr (sail)Zephyr (sail)

Zephyr (sail) is the personal blog of a regular joe who used to crew racing yachts. This New England sailor writes about “sailing culture” and uses poems, song lyrics and pictures of his 5-year-old son’s first overnight sailing trip to remind his readers of the magic of boating. The site also provides news of the sailing world, great shots from major regattas and the blogger’s two cents on media coverage of sailing topics.

WaterlogWaterlog

Formerly a blog network member of the defunct magazine Business 2.0, Waterlog follows marine business topics ranging from fishing reports to the San Francisco Bay oil spill. Now independent from former parent company Time, Inc., blogger Jeffrey Davis plans for focus less on business and more on yachting, racing and marine industry topics. The superyacht category of his blog highlights the coolest ships as well as Davis’ slight obsession with the Maltese Falcon and her owner, Tom Perkins. Since Business 2.0 closed its doors, Davis’ postings have been infrequent, but he’s promised to pick up speed in the future.

SailscapeSailscape

If you’re stuck in the office, longing for the open seas, check out Sailscape. Created by photo enthusiast Willie Waw, this blog boasts sailing and marine photos galore. Idyllic shots of the Virgin Islands, San Tropez and New England provide small tastes of where your next yachting adventure could take you. Sloops, cutters, schooners, and even little Sunfish prove to be fun eye candy for the landlocked.

YachtspotterYachtSpotter & SuperYacht Crew Academy

We’re all luxe voyeurs and two blogs offer an especially fun peek into the world of megayachts. YachtSpotter reports on the latest locations and pictures of the most exclusive yachts in the world. Ships are listed in alphabetical order, making a search for your favorite megayacht easy. A quick check reveals that, as of October 9, 2007, Maltese Falcon is housed at the Baglietto yard in La Spezia, Italy.

And if pictures are not enough, read about the experiences of yacht crewmembers on at The SuperYacht Crew Academy blog. Comments under the “Sweet Taste of Success” section reveal hefty crew salaries and tales of eccentric yacht owners.
