Billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have teamed up again. Only this time, it’s not the world’s largest philanthropic foundation ($60 billion+), but a special promotion between Microsoft and Marquis Jet (an exclusive partner of NetJets, a Berkshire-Hathaway company).
Microsoft recently launched a new product for the estimated 26 million small business in the U.S. The Microsoft Office Live suite targets companies with 10 or less employees and offers free domain names, Web site, and company email accounts.
To promote the beta program, Microsoft is offering a 10-hour Marquis Jet card as the grand prize of its “I’m Going Places” sweepstakes. The card is valued at $50,000 and provides the winner and six guests 10 hours of private jet travel on a Citation Ultra V. Pricing for a pre-paid 25 hour Marquis Card typically begins at $120,000.
“We are excited to be selected to work with Microsoft on this important product launch,” said Ken Austin, executive vice president of Marquis Jet. “Microsoft is a company that business owners large and small look to and rely upon daily to not only support, but also grow their business ventures. Microsoft’s reputation for consistently delivering products that professionals can depend on and leverage is one we are proud to be associated with.”
It’s unlikely two of the world’s wealthiest men designed this promotion themselves, but the marketing departments of their respective companies have devised an interesting angle to entice small business owners to sign up and try Microsoft Office Live. After all, who wouldn’t want a free chance to fly in a private jet, especially after the recent debacles in commercial air service.
